About
whoami Hi, I am Drew De Ponte. Thought Hatchery, LLC is my company. It is where I independently design and develop the software products that I wish existed in the world.
Approach
How is Thought Hatchery different?
At Thought Hatchery, I focus on three main things:
-
Cross-platform
Runs where you work. Every platform a first-class citizen.
-
Craftsmanship
Quality at every layer, from the metal up to the pixels.
-
Buy & Own
Pay once. Keep it forever, source included. Where everything is heading.
Products
Every product comes one of three ways. The heading on each group says which, and what you get.
Buy & Own
pay once · keep forever · source included
Pay once and it is yours for good, source code included, so you can tinker with it, fix it, and change it like a classic car you keep in the garage. Updates are included for a year. The next major version is a new purchase. You just can't resell it.
- Buy & Own Coming soon The first Buy & Own product is still in the incubator.

On AI
What is my stance on AI (LLMs)?
At the time of writing, I am not opposed to LLMs and think that they are a powerful and useful tool. However, they are not the magic bullet that the big AI companies' marketing claims them to be.
There are still significant gaps in what they produce. In areas like stability, utility, craftsmanship, maintainability, etc.
So, as of now they still need to be consistently guided by a human with taste and that taste must transcend more than just the user experience. The values making up taste need to be present throughout all the layers of the software from the lower level layers of the computer, up through the code, and out through the user experience.
This may change in the future as the AI labs continue focusing on trying to close the gap.
